Annual Convention June 15 - 18, 2010
The Challenge of Change was the theme of this year’s
MBA Annual Convention June 15-18, 2010, at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island.
Bankers spent the week learning about the future of Michigan and the economy, preparing for rising rates, tips for making banks more profitable and what challenges and changes lie on the horizon. They took advantage of networking opportunities and discussed common industry issues and trends.
Some of the highlights of this year's convention include:
- Bob Morgan's presentation on Banking, What am I Doing in this Business
- Frank Farone's presentation on Preparing for Rising Rates Ahead
- Tim Holt's presentation on The Top 10 Best Practices of Profitable Banks
At the MBA membership meeting, the 2010-2011 executive officers were elected including Chairman Robert Chapman, United Bancorp, Inc.; Chairman Elect Tim Doyle, Fifth Third Bank; Vice Chairman Craig Kus, Bank of Alpena; Treasurer Deb Smith-Olson, Lake-Osceola State Bank and Immediate Past Chairman Eric Eishen, Sturgis Bank & Trust Company.
Banks celebrating milestone anniversaries were recognized including: The Citizens State Bank of Ontonagon, 100 years; Peoples State Bank of Munising, 100 years; The First National Bank of Wakefield, 100 years; Edgewater Bank, 100 years; Superior National Bank & Trust, 120 years; Century Bank & Trust, 120 years and Mayville State Bank, 125 years.
During the annual banquet at the Grand Hotel, Eric Eishen, MBA immediate past chairman, recognized the MBA 2010 Banker of the Year Jim Conboy, director of CNB Corporation.
